Research Project: Identification of Genetic Components Underlying Desirable Flavor Properties of Whole Grain Wheat Products

Location: Wheat Health, Genetics, and Quality Research

Project Number: 2090-43440-007-008-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Feb 1, 2015
End Date: Jan 31, 2017

Objective:
Identify the genetic components underlying desirable flavor properties of whole grain wheat products.

Approach:
Use our existing mouse model system for determining relative consumption preference of individual wheat genotypes; evaluate a doubled haploid population using the mouse model for consumption preference; and evaluate 20 hard white winter doubled haploid breeding lines from Colorado State University. Quantify the relative consumption preference using Student’s t Score.
