Research Project: Collaborative Research: The Zygomycetes Genealogy of Life (ZyGoLife) - the Conundrum of Kingdom Fungi-CFDA# 47.074

Location: Mycotoxin Prevention and Applied Microbiology Research

Project Number: 5010-22410-021-02-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 1, 2015
End Date: Jun 30, 2018

Objective:
Establish the phylogenetic relationships of the early diverging Zygomycete lineages using nuclear rDNA ITS + LSU rDNA markers and whole genome sequencing. Perform barcode sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. Approximately 3,000-3,500 zygomycetous strains in the ARS Culture Collection (NRRL) will be barcoded, using ribosomal DNA sequence data.

Approach:
PCR and sequencing of ITS + LSU rDNA amplicons from individual cultures of NRRL strains that are from the Zygomycete lineages.
