Research Project: Deciphering the Effects of Grapevine Virus on Idaho Grape/Wine Quality

The goal of this proposed work is to establish the quality component baseline for Idaho wine grapes and their products, and identify the current Grapevine leafroll virus-3 status and its relationship to fruit quality.

This project outlines a multi-institution collaborative project to expand upon our previous Idaho wine grape, and product quality findings. The last ten years have seen increased production and quality changes. Wine grape industry samples from 2000 to 2004 vintages were assessed for their quality constituents, and the results were published. The industry has undergone numerous changes since that time, it is now relevant to revisit grape product quality and compare the data to that of a decade ago. A concurrent project will examine Grapevine leafroll virus-3 effects within the region, by grape quality measurements from healthy vines compared to those of infected vines.
