Research Project: Improved Malt Barley Production in the Northeast

Location: National Programs

Project Number: 0500-00053-003-95-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Jun 1, 2014
End Date: May 31, 2017

Objective:
Development of integrated pest management strategies to minimize the loss of yield and quality from FHB.

Approach:
1) Evaluate potential winter and spring barley germplasm. The trials will identify varieties suitable for malting and adapted to the Northeast. 2) Conduct fungicide application studies for optimal timing and best practices for the Northeast. 3) Standard organic grain practices including elevated seeding rates and interseeding of clover will be evaluated as to their impact on FHB and DON.
