Research Project: Comparative Biology of Potato Psyllid Haplotypes and Implications for Northwest Potato Growers

Location: Temperate Tree Fruit and Vegetable Research

Project Number: 2092-22000-021-07-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2014
End Date: Jun 30, 2017

Objective:
Compare biology and vector efficiencies of three genetic types of potato psyllid.

Approach:
Lab and field trials to examine coldhardiness. Lab examination of fitness on nightshade vs potato. Determine types of symbionts associated with different haplotypes, and look for correlation with host adaptation. Use morphometric analysis to develop a set of diagnostics for separating haplotypes. Examine how rapidly Lso spreads in insect to salivary glands following a feeding event.
