Research Project: Science Education Curricula Development and Outreach Programs

Location: Range Management Research

Project Number: 3050-11210-009-37-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 16, 2014
End Date: Apr 15, 2019

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative agreement is to develop science education curricula and outreach programs for K-12 students, teachers, and the general public in the southwestern U.S. and Mexico Border Region. A specific element of this objective is to distribute model K-12 education activities on science elements of climate change adaptation and mitigation that support activities of the Southwest Regional Climate Change Hub of the USDA.

Approach:
The Research Unit based at the Jornada Experimental Range has worked closely with the Asombro Institute for Science Education since 1997 to develop science-based education materials and technology transfer programs. During the previous 5-year agreement the Asombro reached over 80,000 students, teachers, and adults in this region (over 16,000 people per year). This agreement will continue their activities and facilitate new activities of the Asombro Institute. In addition, this agreement includes collaborative activities between the Asombro and the SW Region Climate Change Hub that is housed within the Jornada research program.
