Research Project: Developing RNAseq Diagnostics for Eukaryotic Pathogens of Plants

Location: Foreign Disease-weed Science Research

Project Number: 8044-22000-044-01-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2014
End Date: Nov 30, 2017

Objective:
Develop a RNA-based massively parallel sequencing (next generation sequencing) approach for the detection of eukaryotic plant pathogens.

Approach:
1. Develop an effective universal RNA extraction approach for plants. 2. Apply next generation sequencing techniques to the RNA extracted from pathogen infected plants. 3. Adapt existing bioinformatic tools to utilize next generation RNAseq data for diagnosis of eukaryotic plant pathogens.
