Research Project: Cotton Harvesting Innovations for the Texas High Plains

Location: Cotton Production and Processing Research

Project Number: 3096-21410-008-36-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 1, 2014
End Date: Dec 31, 2014

The objective of this research is to develop and evaluate new systems for use on mechanical cotton harvesters that improve producer profitability.

The work of this project in 2014 will focus on: 1. Investigating the accuracy of a newly released commercial microwave yield monitor system for use on cotton stripper harvesters, and elucidating the relationship between system error and various material and environmental parameters. 2. Developing a system for measuring seed cotton weight on a cotton harvester for use in calibrating yield monitor data on the harvester. This system will provide users with the ability to produce accurate yield maps while harvesting, negating the need for expensive scale systems for in-field calibration or burdensome data processing after harvest to post-calibrate yield maps.
