1. Produce high yielding varieties and experimental lines from exotic soybean and wild soybean germplasm and develop new technology to more efficiently select and utilize exotic soybean germplasm for increasing yield; and, 2. Utilize novel yield genes from cultivated and wild Japanese soybean.
Make diverse crosses each year based on our result and other information for future germplasm improvement. Evaluate recombinant inbred lines (RILs) to identify yield QTL. Use a multiple-family based genome-wide association mapping approach to analyze and mine the favorable yield alleles from populations previously evaluated. Fine map confirmed yield QTL from PI 416937 and fingerprint the high yielding lines which were derived from PI 416937 to select for yield QTL. Developed F5-derived recombinant inbred line population derived from Japanese wild soybean. Develop near isogenic lines for 3 genomic regions in wild soybean associated with high yield.
