Research Project: High-impact Public Research for Modified Carbohydrate Composition in U.S. Soybeans

Location: Plant Genetics Research

Project Number: 5070-21000-036-18-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 17, 2013
End Date: Sep 30, 2016

The overall objective of this project is to conduct research to establish the target seed carbohydrate profile and characterize the stability of the target trait across maturity groups to produce soybean meal with enhanced metabolizable energy.

The approach is to develop soybean lines with different carbohydrate profiles that can be evaluated for trait stability across maturity groups, combining ability with other traits, and poultry feeding studies that compare metabolizable energy gains from increases in sucrose to decreases in raffinose and stachyose.
