1. Complete cold-tolerance testing on L. stria and investigate basic biology. 2. Obtain more individuals of Lygodium palmatum and L. cubense. 3. Maintain Neostrombocerus in colony and obtain basic biology and geographic adaptations to climate conditions. 4. Complete host-range testing with L. stria. 5. Complete host-range testing with N. albicomus. 6. Begin readying greenhouses, Lygodium hydroponics system and growth chambers for stem-borers from Asia. 7. Maintain L. stria and N. albicomus in colony and pending
1. Complete multi-generational host-specificity testing with Jamaican collections of L. volubile and L. micans for N. albicomus. We will introduce adults into mating cages containing the non-target Lygodium species to monitor oviposition and persistence on these species. Additional testing will be completed on L. cubense when it is obtained. 2. We will complete the suite of host-trials on L. stria in addition to the temperature tolerance trials. No choice and multiple choice tests will conducted for both invasive Lygodium species (L. microphyllum, L. japonicum) in addition to native Caribbean (L. volubile, L. oligostachyum, L. micans, L. cubense) and the rare and endangered native Lygodium (L. palmatum). Temperatures for the cold tolerance trials will be ascertained by modeling the climate threshold for the L.
