1) Determine the role of molecular receptors, including odorant receptors (ORs) and gustatory receptors (GRs), in chemoreception and behavior of Yellow Fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti; and 2) Identify novel compounds which activate or inhibit molecular receptors that may be useful as lures in traps and as repellents.
ARS will acquire the basic knowledge of chemoreceptors in the Yellow Fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti. This information will be used by both parties to jointly discover and develop chemicals for manipulation of mosquito behavior. The Cooperator will provide expertise and advice on strategies for the use of behavioral chemicals to enhance specificity and efficacy of insecticides aimed at mosquito control.
