Research Project: Collaborative Research: A Potential New Dust Source in the Southern Hemisphere: Reactivation of the Kalahari Dunes

Location: Range Management Research

Project Number: 3050-11210-007-35-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Apr 15, 2014
End Date: Jan 31, 2016

To provide support for an NSF-funded research project designed to determine whether reactivation of the Kalahari dunes of Botswana are likely to result in significantly increased dust emissions to the atmosphere.

The major component of the research is three field campaigns in Botswana. Dust monitoring equipment owned by UCLA will be established during the first visit, maintained during the second and removed during the third. Measurements will be completed during all three visits. The data will be used to address the objective through a combination of statistical analysis and modeling.
