Start Date: Sep 1, 2013
End Date: Jun 30, 2017
Produce homoeologous recombinants involving Chinese Spring (CS) wheat B genome, Ae. speltoides and Th. elongatum chromosomes, (2) Genetically and physically delineate the recombinant chromosomes and construct an integrated genetic and cytogenetic map of seven B-genome chromosomes, (3) Develop wheat germplasm with favorable genes from Ae. speltoides and Th. elongatum.
(1) Induce meiotic recombination of Chinese Spring (CS) wheat B-genome chromosomes with their Aegilops speltoides and Thinopyrum elongatum homoeologues. The lines carrying the recombinants will be selected using both SSR and SNP markers, (2) Delineate the recombinant chromosomes and construct physical maps for the B-genome chromosomes using fluorescent genome in situ hybridization (FGISH). An integrated map containing both the physical maps and the DNA marker based genetic maps will be developed for each of the B-genome chromosomes, (3) Develop breeding-ready bread wheat germplasm with favorable genes from Ae. speltoides and Th. elongatum. The recombinant lines will be screened for tolerance against biotic and abiotic stresses, and provide resources for trait improvement in the breeding programs.
