Location: Beneficial Insects Introduction Research
Project Number: 8010-22000-028-14-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 29, 2013
End Date: Sep 30, 2017
To survey key natural enemies of wood-boring insects such as longhorned beetles (Cerambycidae), jewel beetles (Buprestidae) and ambrosia beetles (Curculionidae) that are already invasive and those considered at high-risk of becoming invasive in the U.S. or China.
Forest sites with closely related tree species (congeners) native to China and/or North America will be selected. Congener species (one Asian, one North American) of deciduous trees will be located, and/or artificially stressed to attract wood-boring insects and their natural enemies. All wood-boring insects infesting these stressed trees will be sampled, collected and identified together with associated egg and larval parasitoids in the spring, summer, and/or late fall.
