Develop remote sensing and geospatial tools for adaptive management of conservation practices in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
Remote sensing tools coupled with land change analysis will be developed to close an adaptive management feedback loop, by providing timely and repeated measures and understanding of site-specific spatial variability in biophysical and hydrogeological landscape characteristics, as well as agricultural management practices. Decision support tools based on remote sensing data and land change analysis will be developed to assist in conservation program management by providing rapid indicators of landscape response to weather and management practices, and by mapping biophysical variability that affects ecosystems and nutrient loading processes. A geospatial data aggregation tool will be developed to provide a dynamic interface for interpretation of landscape characteristics and management practices at a scale useful for adaptive planning purposes, while maintaining privacy associated with farm-specific management data.
