Research Project: Developing Decision Support Systems for Nutrient Management

Location: Pasture Systems & Watershed Management Research

Project Number: 8070-13000-012-31-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 30, 2013
End Date: Sep 30, 2016

The objective of this agreement is to provide laboratory and analytical support to research investigating improved land management practices which will potentially benefit soil, air, and water quality in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

This work will be carried out by a part-time support scientist. Over the four years, the scientist will conduct biological and chemical analysis of soils (primarily carbon and nitrogen measurements) in support of soil and nutrient management studies conducted jointly by Penn State and USDA-ARS. The work supports research quantifying environmental benefits of biochar additions to marginally productive soils, sustainable diary forage production methods, and improved manure incorporation methods.
