Project Number: 8070-13000-012-30-G
Project Type: Grant
Start Date: Mar 25, 2013
End Date: Sep 30, 2013
The objective of the grant is to provide funds in support of the American Water Resources Association's (AWRA) Spring Specialty Conference on Agricultural Hydrology and Water Quality. The overall goal of the conference is to provide a venue for scientists and water resources practitioners from around the world to discuss the latest research on managing and protecting water quality in agricultural and rangeland watersheds.
As a co-sponsor of the AWRA Specialty Conference on Agricultural Hydrology and Water Quality, USDA-ARS will play an important role in the planning process through the involvement of many of its research scientists. For instance, an ARS SY (USDA-ARS-PSWMRU) is serving as technical co-chair of the conference, where his duties include organizing scientific sessions, reviewing and selecting abstracts for presentations, and serving as guest editor for publications stemming from the meeting. In addition, ARS scientists from labs around the country will be convening special sessions on topics ranging from managing the legacy of past phosphorus management to understanding the hydrologic and water quality impacts of artificial drainage. Given the relevancy of this conference to ARS scientists, particularly those involved in National Program (NP) 211, Water Availability and Water Management, we expect agency research to be featured prominently at the meeting. Indeed, the NP 211 Leader, has expressed his support of the conference.
