Location: European Biological Control Laboratory
Project Number: 0212-22000-028-01-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: May 14, 2013
End Date: May 13, 2018
The project is a multidisciplinary study of invasive plant/natural regulator/agricultural practice/biotic factor interactions, with two goals: (1) to determine the biological, genetic, ecological and agricultural factors that trigger leafy spurge invasiveness, and describe their interactions; and (2) to propose an integrated biocontrol program combining the interactions of spurge and its enemies with agricultural practices, based upon field and laboratory tests.
The project has three chronological approaches : (i) Survey literature on the impact of the invasive plant, leafy spurge, at different spacial scales : regional (France), European (western, central, eastern), and international (USA, Canada); (ii) Conduct genetic evaluation of the invasive populations of the Saone valley to be compared with vouchers of European and North American populations, and (iii) Conduct field and laboratory experiments to understand ecological factors involved in the spread of the target, with a special emphasis on potential natural regulators to be used in a conservation biocontrol management.
