Continue collaborative research on CEAP with the NRCS by improving the RHEM model and interface, testing in Arizona, running model on additional NRI points, and quantify woody cover.
1. Update RHEM interface to output risk ratings. Led by ARS with input from NRCS and others. 2. With assistance from an NRCS-provided consultant, run RHEM model for ecological sites of interest provided by NRCS State Range Cons, and sites with Similarity Indexes >60% from 2003-2010 NRI datasets. This will be conducted in at least ten of the 17 Western United States. Evaluate whether the NRI Similarity Index data can be used as “reference” erosion rates for areas without adequate ecological site descriptions. 3. Assist an NRCS-provided consultant to conduct RHEM pilot testing with NRCS range specialists in field offices and some producer input, particularly throughout Arizona. 4. In conjunction with NRCS-provided consultant, look at CDSI GRAS tool data inputs and determine what additional data would be needed to run RHEM. Led by the consultant, not ARS. 5. Develop a remote sensing standardized protocol for woody plant canopy cover changes over time on La Cienega, Bosque, and MLRAs 78A,B,C.
