Research Project: Determining the Potential of Acquiring Lower Half Mean Length (LHML) from the Fibrotest Instrument

Location: Cotton Structure and Quality Research

Project Number: 6435-44000-075-15-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 1, 2013
End Date: Jun 30, 2014

To collaboratively determine the potential of acquiring the Lower Half Mean Length (LHML) from the Fibrotest instrument. If it is determined that LHML may be acquired from the Fibrotest instrument, then a method will be developed to implement acquisition of LHML from the instrument.

To develop Fibrotest software that calculates Lower Half Mean Length (LHML) by applying knowledge available so far, test a selection of cotton sample on Fibrotest and other instruments, compare the Fibrotest results including LHML with that obtained from Advanced Fiber Informtation System (AFIS) fiber length distribution, and evaluate and validate the accuracy of the LHML from Fibrotest.
