Research Project: Antimicrobial Resistance of Enterobacteriaceae Populations in Northeastern U.S. Dairy Operations

Location: Environmental Microbial & Food Safety Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-32000-110-02-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 12, 2013
End Date: Jul 31, 2017

The specific objective of this project is to characterize the antimicrobial resistance of enteric bacteria associated with dairy cattle in the Northeast. The long term goal is to develop and optimize management strategies that minimize the prevalence of zoonotic enteric bacteria, including those resistant to antimicrobial agents, in dairy production systems.

Epidemiological studies will be conducted based on antimicrobial resistance of E. coli and Salmonella isolates from dairy farms and slaughter houses in Pennsylvania.
