I. Develop novel and durable coating-embedded adulticide (CEA) and larvicide (CEL) formulations that can be integrated into a durable dual-action lethal ovitrap (DDALO) targeting adult and larvae mosquitoes in the laboratory and field settings. II. Develop methods of using novel CEA and CEL formulations and DDALOs in long-term vector management and control strategies by testing materials under artificial and natural aging procedures, in field situations, and under potential normal use conditions.
Insecticide active ingredients already registered for mosquito control will be incorporated into a variety of paint-like formulations. These formulations will be tested as residuals to kill adult mosquitoes, evaluating efficacy and longevity. Other formulations will be developed for larval control, requiring long-duration activity while submerged. Following development of effective formulations, they will be used in model ovitraps with the objective of killing most adult female mosquitoes that come to the trap and killing any larvae that hatch from eggs deposited by dying mosquitoes. The ovitrap will be designed for maximum attractiveness to female mosquitoes, performing trials on models made through three dimensional printing. The optimum product will be refined by testing for longevity of activity and in field situations.
