Research Project: Breeding Approaches to Develop Stress Tolerant Soybean Varieties for Nebraska

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6070-21220-068-41-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 1, 2014
End Date: Nov 30, 2016

To develop high yielding drought tolerant cultivars adapted to Nebraska and other drought-prone U.S. environments.

A broad range of soybean germplasm will be screened for drought tolerance in the field and greenhouse. Genetics of tolerance will be ascertained through QTL mapping, resulting ultimately in development breeder-friendly DNA markers for marker assisted selection. Adapted drought tolerant breeding lines will also be developed though empirical selection for improved yield drought stricken environments.
