Test capabilities of precision sprayers to reduce spray drift and off-target losses.
In cooperation with the ARS Application Technology Research Unit, Wooster, OH, perform the following: Conduct field experiments to investigate spray deposition uniformity inside canopies, and amounts of spray drift and off-target losses to be reduced with new precision sprayers. Crops in ornamental nurseries and apple orchards will be selected for the field experiments. Spray deposits at different locations inside and outside tree canopies, on the ground and in the air will be measured. Artificial screen targets will be used to collect spray deposits. A fluorescent tracer will be used to mix with spray solution to quantify amount of spray deposits on the target screens. Water sensitive papers will be used to determine the spray coverage quality inside canopies.
