Location: Water Reuse and Remediation Research

Project Number: 2036-61000-016-12-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2012
End Date: Sep 30, 2014

Identify marginally productive, salt-affected agricultural lands within the San Joaquin Valley that provide the highest potential for HRJ feedstock production.

The project has a four phase approach. Phase 1: initial land assessment with overlay approach using SSURGO data layers. Phase 2: ECa-directed soil sampling for (a) ground truth of Phase 1, (b) detailed site characterization of Phase 3, and (c) calibration of Phase 4; Phase 3: validation of feedstock crop production on marginally productive, salt-affected soils receiving degraded water. Phase 4: incorporation of remote imagery (MODIS) to refine land use assessment map.
