This amendment to the existing SCA number 58-6408-2-754 supports the long-term objective of improving scientific calculations of the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation, Version 2 (RUSLE2) model through two new specific objectives. First, this project will research methods and commonalities between AnnAGNPS and RUSLE2 models. Secondly, a prototype application integrating these two erosion models will be developed. The prototype application will be the first step in bridging the scale gap between these two models; AnnAGNPS at the watershed scale and RUSLE2 at the field scale.
1. Methodology for transferring information from RUSLE2 into AnnAGNPS. Different methods will be investigated to pass information from RUSLE2 databases into the AnnAGNPS model at execution time. 2. Development of a reference dataset to be simulated independently by both RUSLE2 and AnnAGNPS models. This dataset should have spatial and environmental parameters compatible with both models; preferably parameters derived from the RUSLE2 database. 3. Implementation of simulation prototype technology, that will (i) utilize AnnAGNPS to identify critical areas for sediment loss at watershed-scale through a standard AnnAGNPS run and (ii) re-simulate those areas with a hybrid AnnAGNPS-RUSLE2 integrated approach that will calculate sediment losses due to sheet and rill processes utilizing RULSE2 technology. 4. Documentation all the findings and the technology developed in reports and scientific manuscripts.
