Develop phosphine fumigation treatment to control light brown apple moth on fresh horticultural and agricultural products.
Oxygenated phosphine fumigation treatments will be concentrated on vegetables and flower plants. Our earlier findings indicate that LBAM larvae, pupae and adults are relatively easy to control and treatment for these stages can be easily tolerated by most fruits. Because fruits are not required to treat for LBAM eggs, it becomes unnecessary to test for fruit tolerance of the 72 h treatment for controlling LBAM eggs. Instead, oxygenated phosphine fumigation treatments will be conducted to determine tolerance of different types of vegetables and fruits including lettuce, broccoli, celery, and strawberries. Most cases of LBAM detection in California were on nursery products. On flower plants, all life stages including LBAM eggs need to be controlled. Therefore, different types of cut flowers and flower plants will be tested for tolerance to oxygenated phosphine fumigation treatments for controlling LBAM eggs.
