2012 Annual Report


1a. Objectives (from AD-416):
Analyze approximately 18,000 soybean and maize samples using ICP-MS.


1b. Approach (from AD-416):
Operation, maintenance, and calibration of the elemental profiling facility including the weighing robot, and the inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). This will include the first pass data analysis including normalization to internal standard, control samples and weight.


3. Progress Report:
In collaboration with the Danforth Center, we successfully conducted research at the USDA-ARS/Danforth Ionomic Profiling Facility which included sample handling, operation of the weighing robot and the Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer. We generated >30,000 data points by processing >1100 soybean and maize seeds every week in support of research to identify genes important for improving yield with less fertilizer or on low quality soils.
