Research Project: Breeding Locally-adapted Pulse Crops for Enhanced Yield and Seed Qualities

Location: Tropical Crops and Germplasm Research

Project Number: 6090-21000-054-01-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2012
End Date: Sep 30, 2014

1. To develop an Andean Diversity Panel (ADP) of about 400 Andean common bean genotypes specifically suited to African countries for evaluation of important agricultural traits. 2. To breed for traits identified as critical for increasing common bean production in Feed the Future countries.

A panel of diverse common bean germplasm specific to the Andean lineage will be developed. The panel will serve as a tool for studying the genetics and breeding for important biotic and abiotic traits in Feed the Future countries. Collaborative breeding will be initiated in important market classes for these selected traits.
