Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Apr 15, 2012
End Date: Dec 14, 2015
The objective of this research project is to multiply bushy type long duration pigeon pea seed ICPL 20092 for grazing trail in the southern Great Plains.
Long duration bushy type pigeon pea seed ICPL 20092 developed by International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) will be used to multiply the seed. Due to its long duration, this cultivar will not produce seed in the southern Great Plains. At the time of flowering, freezing temperatures in the southern Great Plains will damage the crop, resulting in no seed production. ICPL 20092 seed will be shipped to the University of Puerto Rico for seed multiplication. The multiplied seed will be seeded in larger plots (0.5 to 0.75 ha) to conduct grazing trials by cattle at the USDA-ARS, Grazinglands Research Laboratory, El Reno, Oklahoma.
