1a. Objectives (from AD-416):
Develop new sources of soybean resistance against root-knot and reniform nematode infection using biotechnology.
1b. Approach (from AD-416):
Identify genes in the nematode whose expression can be modulated in such a way as to inhibit root-knot and reniform nematode parasitism of soybean.
3. Progress Report:
Applicants for the post-doctoral research position that was available through this Specific Cooperative Agreement (SCA) were interviewed in January and February of 2012; however, a suitable candidate was not found. The position was re-advertised on the American Society of Plant Biology website in March and April. A suitable candidate was identifed who accepted the offer for the position. This individual began work on the project on June 18. Work is currently being performed on in situ hybridizations for 11 candidate reniform nematode parasitism genes.
