Location: Emerging Pests and Pathogens Research2012 Annual Report
1a. Objectives (from AD-416):
1. Develop and maintain a project website that will be used to facilitate project meetings, reports and communications, as well as, to post information for stakeholders; 2) evaluate aphid transmission efficiency of PVY strains.
1b. Approach (from AD-416):
The website will serve as a conduit for communication among the project scientists and staff as well as a useful source of information for all stakeholders served by the project. The site will also serve as a portal for much of the data management for the project that involves scientists and collaborators from 17 U.S. states. Aphid transmission experiments will investigate the efficiency of transmission from plants infected with individual strains of PVY as well as mixtures of strains.
3. Progress Report:
A website, www.potatovirus.com, has been established and is being populated and updated with information on potato virus Y and its effects on potato production. A picture gallery of foliar and tuber symptoms of potato virus Y on the major potato varieties grown in the US is helpful to growers and seed certification agencies to identify and remove infected plants.
