Location: Biological Control of Pests Research

2012 Annual Report

1a. Objectives (from AD-416):
1) Evaluate strobulurins, triazoles, and combinations of fungicides for their activity against Aspergillus flavus and their effect on aflatoxin production. 2) Determine optimum rate and timeing of application of Afla-Guard. 3) Fungicide and Afla-Guard interations.

1b. Approach (from AD-416):
Evaluate the efficacy of Afla-Guard in at least five Mississippi Delta field sites, at three application rates and several application times, on side-by-side irrigated and non-irrigated corn. In laboratory and field trials the effect of fungicides on A. flavus will be measured.

3. Progress Report:
Corn was planted in five different locations in Mississippi Delta in Spring 2011. To determine optimum rate and timing of application of Afla-Guard. Three application timings were evaluated (V7, VT, and blister-stage) for Afla-Guard and a V7 application timing for K49 were used. Two rates of applications were 10 lbs per acre and 20 lbs per acre. Corn was harvested in late August and analyzed for aflatoxin contamination and fungal infection. The final report was submitted to the board and to each investigator on Feb. 5, 2012. This is a final report.
