Research Project: Intercontinental and Temporal Research Studies on Transgene Engineered in Plums

Location: Innovative Fruit Production, Improvement and Protection

Project Number: 8080-21000-023-08-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Nov 1, 2010
End Date: Oct 31, 2015

The objectives of this project will be to: 1) promote joint research and disseminate the experience of evaluating genetically engineered resistance to plum pox virus in Europe; and 2) demonstrate the effectiveness, stability, and safety of the genetically engineered plum variety, 'HoneySweet', in Europe.

Scientific exchanges will be undertaken in order to collaborate on research projects and field tests of 'HoneySweet' plum. European researchers will work in the U.S. with ARS scientists in molecular characterization of gene expression in 'HoneySweet' trees and fruit. U.S. researchers will work in Europe with the evaluation and data collection from Europe field tests of 'HoneySweet' plum.
