To strengthen the collaborations between the Participants in areas of mutual interest through cooperative research programs and exchanges. To this end, the Participants intend jointly to explore and coordinate research activities of mutual interest which should be implemented by mutual understanding and in conformance with the regulations and policies of both Participants.
1b. Approach (from AD-416)
Foster long-term collaborative research and development activities, and intend to facilitate cooperation among agricultural institutions and specialists as jointly deemed appropriate. Cooperative activities may be in the following areas of interest: food safety and security, climate change, bio-security as it pertains to agriculture, crop production protection, biotechnology, water quality, integrated pest management, and animal production and health. Cooperative activities in other related areas may be considered by mutual agreement.
3. Progress Report
ARS continues to enjoy good scientific cooperation with Israeli research institutions. ARS-Peoria is cooperating with Tel Aviv University on the biology and genetics of cereal rust fungi (3640-21220-020-12). ARS also has ongoing cooperation on Basic and Residual Efficacy of Oral Insecticides in Toxic Sugar Baits to Control Sand Flies and Mosquitoes. Under BARD, ARS is cooperating with Israeli counterparts on a newly emerging cattle-epizootic hemorrhagic disease virus in Israel, cross-reactive vaccine targets for H5 and H9 avian influenza, antigenic cartography of H9 avian influenza virus and its application to vaccine selection, genome-wide association study for economic traits in Holstein cattle, genetic resistance to disease in carp, psyllid pests in pear, insect control agent prototypes, biological control of cereal aphids in wheat, stripe rust resistance in wheat, crop heat tolerance, crop improvement, cucumber genomics, winter chickpea, efficient allele mining in a model sequenced crop, postharvest biocontrol systems, ultra-fast methods and instrumentation for the analysis of hazardous chemicals in the food supply, postharvest handling procedures in order to improve sensory quality of mandarins.
