2012 Annual Report

1a. Objectives (from AD-416):
Develop sugarcane clones with high-yielding disease-resistance potential for evaluation of sugar production.

1b. Approach (from AD-416):
Sugarcane seedlings will be produced from high-yielding disease-resistant parental clones with wide adaptation. Superior clones with high vigor, growth and freedom from diseases will be selected and established in yield trials to identify superior clones.

3. Progress Report:
Fifty eight CP-clones were shipped to Nicaragua Sugar Estates Limited for yield and disease evaluation. In plant crop trials, two CP-Sugarcane clones, CPCL 02-7478 and CPCL 00-1095 yielded 20.2 and 24.4 metric tons of sugar per ha, respectively, compared to their commercial checks of CP 73-1547 and CP 72-2086 at 20.8 and 19.9, respectively in Nicaragua. In second ratoon trials, two clones CP 02-2180 and CP 99-1944 that yielded 24.1 and 17.3 metric tons of sugar per hectare, compared to checks, CP 72-2086 and CP 73-1547 that yielded 20.3 and 19.4. These clones may offer commercial alternatives in Nicaragua.
