Research Project: Improving Conservation Management Practices for Sustainable Production in the Lower Mississippi River Basin

Location: Delta Water Management Research

Project Number: 6024-13000-004-016-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2018
End Date: Jul 31, 2023

Objective:
1. Measure and/or estimate the impact of improved farming practices on yield, water use, nutrient losses, and water quality while sustaining crop yields and reducing environmental impacts in irrigated agroecosystems. 2. Develop an improved understanding of nutrient and sediment transport and losses in irrigated cropping systems.

Approach:
We will conduct replicated field trials of different crop management practices and quantify yield, nutrient, water quantity and quality. Water samples will be collected either manually or with automated samplers for laboratory analysis of nutrients and sediment. These measurements will take place in fields cultivated under conventional and conservation cropping practices.
