Location: Plant, Soil and Nutrition Research2010 Annual Report
1a. Objectives (from AD-416)
The objectives of this cooperative research project are to enhance our knowledge regarding grass development including, development in response to biotic and abiotic stress through the use of genetic and genomic tools in sorghum and other cereal grasses.
1b. Approach (from AD-416)
In order to identify candidate genes, sample materials will be collected from different sorghum tissues and treatments and used for the generation and sequencing of expression libraries; and QPCR analysis.
3. Progress Report
The research during this past year has focused on continuation of objectives from last year. Specifically the work has focused on identifying genes involved in abiotic stress using sorghum as a model. The approach in the last year has been analysis of RNA seq data. In the last year work has focused on prototyping two different statistical analysis for identification of gene that change expression, and validate these protein coding microRNA genes using qPCR methods. In addition to stress related library the collaborators have produced an atlas of 10 RNAseq libraries from sorghum tissues. We are exploring the used of these libraries to improve on the existing sorghum annotations. Research conducted under this agreement was monitored through in conference calls between the ADODR and the Cooperator.
