Location: Crop Improvement and Genetics Research
Project Number: 2030-21410-020-04-N
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 9, 2009
End Date: Sep 8, 2014
The objectives of this research are to conduct analysis on castor germplasm and crop performance, to develop high oil/low toxin cultivars and to develop clean technologies for seed oil processing and seed meal de-toxification.
The Nankai University Engineering Research Center for Castor (NKERCC) and USDA-ARS will exchange castor germplasm samples to expand cultivars. USDA-ARS will perform non-destructive oil content analysis for germplasms. High oil content seeds will be evaluated by NKERCC for filed performance. The NKERCC will develop clean technologies for seed oil and meal processing. The USDA-ARS will develop technologies to evaluate qualities of seed oil and meal after the processing. NKERCC and USDA-ARS will co-apply grants under Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development & Climate (http://www.asiapacificpartnership.org) and other sources.
