1a. Objectives (from AD-416)
Determine effects of landscapes on population growth of major pests, stink bugs in Bt cotton. Conduct research to understand why stink bugs are important pests on Bt cotton.

1) Sample stink bug populations at the landscape level to confirm sequence of habitats used. 2) Estimate net reproductive rate and inter-patch movement, parametize and fit model using data to predict colonization of cotton and effects of landscape structure on colonization.
3. Progress Report
This project is related to objective 1 of the inhouse project: Develop vegetational designs and therapeutic interventions that foster desirable pest/natural enemy balances. When Bt cotton, RR cotton, peanuts and soybean are growing in close proximity, what is the relative colonization preference for stink bugs among these crops? Also, are their crop specific mortality from predation and parasitism of stink bugs among these crops? To be able to predict stink bug colonization in Bt cotton, a model that incorporates relative crop preference as a parameter was developed. We completed a 3 year and 3 site plot study of relative crop preferences among these crops. We also completed a 2 year stink bug egg bait experiment to assess predation and parasitism in these crops. Both results will be incorporated in our landscape model that uses a patch model to predict stink bug colonization of Bt cotton within a given landscape. We also completed the collection of the 1st year stink bug data from 2 regions of southern Georgia that differed in the amount of corn (early season host crop plant available for stink bugs) and soybean (preferred host crop plant for stink bugs) present. Collaborators are in contact via numerous e-mails, conference calls, weekly meetings and yearly site visits.
