Dr. Lizzy French is originally from Urbana, Illinois, where she completed her bachelors. She completed her Masters and Ph.D. in dairy nutrition at UW Madison. After graduate school, Dr. French worked at DeLaval as a Clinical Trial Specialist in Milk Quality and Animal Health, and as a Dairy Management Advisor on automatic milking systems for North America. In 2016, she joined Purina Animal Nutrition as a Dairy Technical Specialist working directly with farmer’s as a nutritionist, advising dairy nutrition practices, and data management on AMS and conventional dairy farms.
Since May 2021, Dr. French has worked at the USDA-ARS Dairy Forage Research Center in Madison, WI as a Research Animal Scientist. Her research objectives are aggregating animal data to develop algorithms for designing rations and rumen microbiome modifications that 1) evaluate dairy cattle C, N, and P intake; digestion; and excretion or loss as gaseous emission and 2) develop small group or individual dairy cattle feeding strategies that optimize feed efficiency; minimize methane emissions and other forms of C, N, and P losses; improve milk income over feed costs; and enhance dairy farm sustainability. Additionally, Dr. French evaluates areas of AMS farm nutrition, management, and precision nutrition technologies.
