Erin Wood is an Animal Scientist at the USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Dale Bumpers Small Farms Research Center in Booneville, AR. Erin received her Master’s degree in animal science from the University of Arkansas, and her Bachelors in Agricultural Business from Arkansas Tech University. She began her career with ARS in 2010 as an animal caretaker, caring for small ruminants and cattle. She quickly moved on to managing the small ruminants and became very involved in cattle and sheep research which lead her to her current position as Animal Scientist. Erin conducted her Master’s research on grass finishing systems for lambs born in the winter and fall, and has assisted with numerous small ruminant parasite research trials. Erin is a trained ultrasound technician for evaluating carcass measurements in both cattle and sheep and uses this tool to predict carcass traits in live animals. She has spoken to producers about carcass measurements, lambing problems, and the benefits of high animal welfare standards.
