Our project focuses on how relationships between root growth and nutrient uptake influence plant performance and product quality of nursery crops. We also assess how benefits from mycorrhizal fungi can be enhanced to increase production efficiency and product quality.

This research will advance (1) basic knowledge of root and mycorrhizal functioning and (2) application of this knowledge to production systems by understanding how management practices and environmental variables affect root and mycorrhizal physiology.

In collaboration with other researchers and commercial producers, this project will develop sustainable practices for nutrient management that optimize product quality of nursery stock while maximizing benefits from mycorrhizal symbionts.
