I serve on a team led by Dr. Gloria DeGrandi Hoffman that aims to find ways to protect honey bee health by preventing and mitigating the spread of pest and diseases to increase honey production, crop pollination and the survivability of colonies. Currently we are looking at optimizing colony survival by utilizing cold storage during the winter months to reduce flight time of winter bees so that they live longer, reduce colony exposure to pest, and increase colony survival while reducing per colony expenditures.
