Technical Responsibilities:

I participate in the planning, design, data analysis and interpretation of research on cotton insect pests, natural enemies and their relationships to cotton phenology and yields.  Specifically, I have worked with pesticides, insect pheromones, bioassays and field and laboratory studies of entomophogous nematodes, nuclear polyhedrosis virus and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) to determine their role in insect management systems.  Most recently, I have been studying the effects pink bollworm larval development and mortality, pupation and tolerance to transgenic cotton plants that produce the Bt toxic protein.  I have used ELISAs to determine the amount of toxic protein in various parts of the cotton plant and PCR to determine the presence or absence of a known resistance gene in the pink bollworm.
