Areas of expertise: Insect molecular biology and physiology

Choi’s research program focuses on new concepts to understand the biology of arthropods, and developing biologically-based management strategies to reduce the impact of key arthropod pests on small fruits and nursery crops.

Specific research tools include, but are not limited, 1) insect neuropeptides (NPs), G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), and receptor interference (Receptor-i) to identify bioactive peptides; 2) application of RNA inference (RNAi); and 3) identification of semiochemicals including pheromones and biosynthetic pathway, to lead discovery of new insecticides; and 4) to understand functional diversity and evolution of NPs & GPCRs from invertebrates to mammals.
