ARS Participates in Procinorte Tri-National Task Forces to Address Genetic Resources Conservation, Tropical/Sub-tropical Fruits, Plant and Animal Health

Steven Kappes, Deputy Administrator, Office of National Programs, and Ryan Moore, Office of International Research Programs, traveled to San Jose, Costa Rica to the headquarters of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) for the Procinorte Board of Directors Annual Meeting February 26-27, 2015. Procinorte brings together tri-national task forces to address common issues; the current task forces work in genetic resources conservation, tropical/sub-tropical fruits, plant health, and animal health. This year's annual meeting was particularly important as the Board addressed severe budget cuts from IICA for annual technical meetings. Procinorte was created in 1998 and represents the agricultural research agencies of North America. It is one of four western hemisphere regional "Proci" groups of the hemispheric body Forum for the Americas on Agricultural Research and Technology Development (FORAGRO). FORAGRO is a full member of the Global Forum for Agriculture Research (GFAR) of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
