USDA National Animal Disease Center Hosts International Workshop for the Procinorte Animal Health Task Force, August 2014

Eileen Thacker, ARS National Program Leader for Food Safety and Animal Health and leader of the Animal Health Task Force under Procinorte, organized a Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) workshop for the Task Force August 5 - 6, 2014 at the USDA National Animal Disease Center (NADC) in Ames, IA.  Mitchell Palmer, NADC Research Veterinary Medical Officer, ran the workshop, which was attended by local ARS and APHIS staff working at NADC, along with counterpart regulatory and research agencies from Canada (CFIA), Mexico (SENASICA, INIFAP), the Mexican Department of Agriculture (SAGARPA) and the Autonomous University of Queretaro.  Procinorte is a North American agricultural research coordination mechanism between the US, Mexico and Canada, and is supported by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). The objectives of the workshop were: 1)  to facilitate coordination and collaboration of research efforts; 2) share knowledge, technologies and experiences concerning bovine TB regulatory activities, including epidemiology, surveillance, and diagnostic tests; 3) inform activities to develop and implement new bovine TB control / eradication procedures and policies.
