Jennifer Woodward-Greene, ARS Office of International Research Programs (OIRP), spoke at the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development (BIFAD) Public Meeting at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. Woodward-Greene outlined opportunities and programs for international research collaborations within the USDA. In addition to the BIFAD, USAID Acting Division Chief, USAID Human and Institutional Capacity Development Clara Cohen, and USAID Chief Scientist for the Bureau of Food Security, Rob Bertram, as well as students, faculty, and other interested persons from several universities and organizations were in attendance. The BIFAD consists of Presidential appointees who advise USAID on agriculture and higher education issues pertinent to food insecurity in developing countries. BIFAD was established by Title XII of the Foreign Assistance Act. The Board and Title XII recognize the critical role of U.S. land-grant institutions in agricultural development, domestically and abroad, and support their representation in USAID development programs.
